For years, there’s been a mysteriousness about who owns popular news outlet Instablog9ja. It’s also slightly part of the appeal of the platform, which exploded into popular imagination in 2015 and currently boasts of a hefty followership base of 1.8 million. Early this morning, controversial, top-tier blogger Linda Ikeji revealed an exclusive on her eponymous blog: Meet the Owner of Instablog9ja, John Abayomi, wherein she included his past and present portfolio.
Reportedly, John is a 2002 graduate of University of Agriculture and has a Masters Degree in New Media & Society from the University of Leicester, 2014. He also holds an international broadcast presentation certificate from Radio Nigeria training school, Lagos. A former online editor of Vanguard and current online editor of Punch, Abayomi is a social media strategist, creative content producer, documentary producer and SEO expert.
Clearly, Abayomi has a rich CV. The reaction from Instablog9ja after the news broke tethered towards sensationalism: “Linda!!!!!!! Why??????” and followed by a slew of emojis. Since then, Instablog9ja has gained traction on social media but opinions are split into opposites. The fan community on LIB seem to believe Abayomi is the true founder while those on Instablog9ja don’t look gullible. Linda Ikeji hasn’t been in any controversy since giving birth to her baby months ago in the U.S., and her modus operandi has been hinged on the pop, snackable gossip journalism that has fetched her a lot of enemies. Revealing the identity of Instablog9ja, whether true or not, is vintage Linda Ikeji and we can’t wait to see how this will unfold.
