A BBC Africa Eye investigation has revealed the real cause of the explosion which occurred at Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos state.
Earlier in the year, about 23 people were killed and more than 50 houses were destroyed in the massive explosion, which the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had stated was caused by a truck colliding with gas cylinders in an area with NNPC pipelines.
However, the 17-minute BBC forensic investigation released on Monday, tells a different story and showed that a leak of vapourised flammable liquid from an NNPC pipeline ignited and caused the explosion.
