by Damilola Jagun

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered the Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police to secure arms and ammunition at various departments and police stations nationwide.

The move, he says is to prevent “any likely or possible attempt by hoodlums or men of the underworld to attack Police stations and other installations.”

The development was communicated via a statement released on Thursday, January 15, by the Force Headquarters spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu.

Abba also directed all Commissioners of Police at State Commands to “beef up security at banks within their jurisdictions and further collaborate with bank authorities and officials to secure their premises.”

Furthermore, he urged members of the public to remain steadfast in collaborating with officers and men of Nigeria Police Force to stamp out crimes.

In 2014, the IGP had instructed that an audit be carried out on Police armouries nationwide with a view to securing the Police arms and ammunition.
