As the Bring Back Our Girls movement resumed its march to the state house to demand the rescue of the 100 plus chibok girls still in captivity, the plight of the kidnapped staff of the University of Maiduguri was also on the front burner of the organisation as they raised their voices for the kidnapped lecturers as they’ve done for the chibok girls.

However, as good as this may sound it will be callous of us as Nigerians to leave the campaign for the release of these lecturers in the hand of BBOG alone. This is because each and every one of us must see an injury to a fellow Nigerian as an injury to all.

The silence that has pervades our atmosphere as it concerns the plight of these four staff of the university of Maiduguri has called to question our view about life and our feelings for fellow humans beings. It’s high time we imbibe the spirit of solidarity to enable us stand in the gap for our fellow country men.

The silence of ASUU on the issue of these lecturers is another source of worry and concern. The association which is one of the largest labour unions in the country has failed to use his bargaining power to demand for the release of these lecturers. Since their kidnap on july 25, 2017 till date, there is no known press conference or public demonstration on these issue from ASUU despite the fact that these individuals are members of their Association.

Leaving these campaigns in the hands of the BBOG is passing a wrong message to the world about the value we place on education, service to the nation and the lives of our academia to future generations. The labour maxim “an injury to one is an injury to all” must form the basis of our lifestyle as Nigerians and we must all rise at this crucial stage to cry out to the government to demands the release of these individuals to reunite them back to their families as soon as possible.
