INEC rejects Sheriff’s candidate for Edo guber election

Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen, the Edo governorship candidate of Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The electoral body said that it rejected the list sent in by Sheriff’s faction because the primary election wasn’t monitored by INEC.

This was contained in a text message sent by Nick Dazang, the Deputy Director in charge of Publicity and Voters’ Education at the commission’s headquarters, to Punch newspaper.

Dazang noted that INEC however, accepted the Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu whose name was submitted by the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the PDP.

He said, “As of this evening, we have received 19 candidates from 19 political parties for the Edo governorship  election.

“These include the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP. We received the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction because of the Port Harcourt court judgement plus the fact that we monitored its primaries.”
