“I’m prepared to prostrate” – Sports Minister gets standing ovation at Senate hearing

by Lekan Olanrewaju

The Supervising Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi yesterday, at the Senate Committee on Sports volunteered to personally reach out to aggrieved football administrators and placate them. This moved members of the Senate so much that his speech was interrupted with a standing ovation.

Speaking at the second day of the Hearing on Sports held at the National Assembly, he said he was prepared to prostrate before any who had issues with the current board of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF. The leadership of Aminu Maigari had in the past been contested by Segun Odegbami, Harrison Jala, among others. At a point there were up to 17 court cases before Bolaji Abdullahi  intervened.

“I want peace to reign within the football fraternity,” he said. “And if it needs me going to the homes of some aggrieved persons to prostrate before them, then I am prepared to do it.”

The Senate Committee Chairman on Sports, Adamu Gumba also called for peace, saying the NFF should move towards appeasing those who are aggrieved, for the unity and progress of the game.

  1. he should prostrate to parents who have lost their kids to sill nysc too. TRash

  2. But, this our Senate act like fish-brain people at time. What's to celebrate in 'I am ready to prostrate'? Is that a report would celebrating? 'I am ready to prostrate.'

Okay. You are ready to prostrate, why haven't you prostrated since? If prostrating is what the problem needs t be resolved?

Instead of the Senate to demand results from these people, they just run off in celebration of fine rhetoric. I remain disappointed.
