There is one man making waves in the crime and detective scene of Nigeria at the moment. His name: Abba Kyari, and this is not the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. ACP Abba Kyari is the commanding officer in charge of the Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

His exploits and rapid growth within a short spate of time of joining the Force is a proof that dedication and hard work still pays in Nigeria irrespective of the sham being thrown at us by people of low dignity and questionable wealth.

Kyari has distinguished himself as an officer of the Nigeria Police Force by sheer hard work and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to any close watcher of his.

Abba Kyari grew up in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he attended Government Primary and Secondary Schools and also bagged a BSc in Geography from the University of Maiduguri in 1998. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2000 and later joined the Police Mobile Force, popularly known as MOPOL in 2005 and was there for about five years until his posting to Lagos Command in October  2010.

He was later deployed as the second in command (2/IC) to SARS and later became the OC SARS on January 15, 2011, before he was made the commanding officer of the IRT team.

In seventeen years he has enjoyed rapid promotions from Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police. There have been rumours that he has been promoted to the rank of a deputy commissioner of Police for the success recorded in the arrest of kidnap kingpin Evans.

Just like he did with Evans, Kyari was the brain behind the rescue of the six Igbonla school boys on Friday, kidnapped 65 days ago.

His exploits in the Nigeria Police Force has shown that we still have some distinguished individuals within the force that will redeem the battered image of the agency someday. It’s worthy of mentioning that some of Abba Kyari’s colleague that were commissioned into the force with him in the year 2000 are still struggling with motorists over twenty Naira or chasing Yahoo boys up and down, he is busy hunting down criminals and kidnappers across the country.

The gradual growth of their colleague should send shivers down their spines and evoke a sense of reawakening within them.

The exponential growth of ACP Abba Kyari is a pointer to the fact that we still have something to celebrate about the Nigeria Police Force.
