Ifunanya Alex: Lessons from a car (30 Days, 30 Voices)

by Ifunanya Alex

ahh

“If we as human beings are smart enough to build something that is wholly dependent on us, how much smarter can God get?”

It doesn’t matter how many reasons we have for why cars are made. I’m sure we’ll find a common ground in this: cars are made first for our ease, convenience, and of course, pleasure!

Whenever I see a car, it amazes me how much we have in common with it. You see, it has two headlamps(the eyes), a horn(mouth), an engine(our systems), consumes fuel(food), tyres(limbs), etc … But guess what? A car may be brand new, with amazing features and a full tank, but if there’s no one driving it, it can’t move an inch and it’s so useless!

In other words, when we see a car move excellently and manoeuvre correctly on a highway, it’s only because the car is “dumb enough” to allow a more intelligent being behind its wheels. This then causes me to think; If we as human beings are smart enough to build something that is wholly dependent on us, how much smarter can God get?

Just as we had a purpose for making cars, God had a purpose in creating us. His Word tells us why we were created. It says it’s for God’s pleasure, and part of that pleasure is making His home inside of each of us (if we allow Him, of course). He knows that if we allow Him direct our lives, it would turn out as He had planned, and we’d be the better for it. But unlike what we had done with cars, He gave us free will, the power to decide whether we want Him or not.

Truth is, we can lead seemingly normal lives without Him, but like the driver’s seat in our cars; He created a void in our hearts that He alone can fill. It doesn’t matter what we try to fill that void with; Success, sex, power, people … The emptiness remains, even widens, waiting for the right person to fill it.
