Sierra Leonean-British actor Idris Elba, 44, has teamed up with actress Kate Winslet in the upcoming thriller, The Mountains Between Us.

In the movie; Elba plays a surgeon named Ben Bass based on Charles Martin’s book of the same name. Ben Bass is stuck on a snow-covered mountain following a plane crash- the movie sees him fight to survive through the High Uintas Wilderness. The film will be released by 20th Century Fox on 20 October 2017 in the United States.

Also this June marks 15 years since TV series, The Wire, (Elba’s real breakout work) premiered on HBO- he portrayed Russell “Stringer” Bell from 2002 to 2004 in the series that made him a household name. Elba whose mother is Ghanaian has been unstoppable ever since. From being named one of People’s 100 most beautiful people in the world to starring in blockbusters like Prometheus, Finding Dory, the role of Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and a recurring role as Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now he is working with drinks brand Purdey on a project tagged ‘Thrive On’ which sees asking people what they want to be when they ‘grow up’ then selects which people’s dreams he will make true. He is also working on his directorial debut will be for upcoming film Yardie, a project following the story of a Jamaican gangster out to crack the cocaine market in North London.

Idris Elba who won us over with his antagonist role in ‘Beasts of No Nation‘ has another terrifying movie coming out soon. His next major release is a science fantasy epic, ‘The Dark Tower’ based on the popular eight-book series by novelist Stephen King.  He has been nominated for both a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA, he won MOBO Inspiration Award in 2014, Golden Globe Award for Best Actor , a Critic Choice Award and an Screen Actors Guild Award but continues to focus on his music career, most recently as a DJ working with the biggest names in music from Madonna, Jay Z to Skepta and Dbanj.
An ongoing debate whether or not Idris Elba should be the next James Bond 007 has been unravelling for months.
