Benjamin Apugo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees has deserted the ruling party for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Apugo made his decision public yesterday at the Sam Mbakwe International cargo airport citing the lack of internal democracy in the party as the reason for dumping the party.

He also renounced his membership of the ruling party’s highest advisory body, the PDP Board of Trustees, led by Tony Anenih.

According to him, the lack of internal democracy has made the pasty lose its initial concept.He justified his defection to the APC saying it was done in the best interest of the nation’s budding democracy.

Leadership reports it thus:

Apugo condemned  insinuations that the APC is a regional party, explaining that the party is a national party that has the spread and strength to provide the much needed leadership that will transform the nation.

“We were not in APC before but we have joined now so you cannot say that it is a regional party. It is a national party that will provide Nigerians with a healthy alternative. Those who were failed by the PDP will now find succour in the APC. It is the change the people needed and it will unseat the PDP in 2015”.

According to him, “I was a founding member of the PDP. We laboured tirelessly to build the party but today, the concept of the founding fathers is no longer there. In my home state, Abia ,the PDP has failed woefully in all sectors and the APC will take over the state because every Abia indigene who wants those amenities that are currently lacking will identify with us and support the APC”.

The Abia state born politician disclosed further that he consulted widely among his supporters and other political stakeholders across the country before crossing over to the APC, hinting that mass mobilization for the party in Abia state will commence soon.
