The police in Sokoto have arrested 9 suspects on suspicion of murder after they were reported to have raped and killed a young girl.

The suspects were said to have had forceful sexual intercourse with the 9-year-old girl, a domestic servant, while her employer was at work.

The suspects have been charged for the offence and will also face murder charges due to the girl’s subsequent death.

Alhaji Shuaibu Gambo, the Commissioner of Police said in Sokoto on Tuesday that investigations had begun to ensue a diligent prosecution of the suspects.

He said that the nine-year old girl was a house help to a Nurse and “the suspects took the advantage when her mistress left for work to attack the deceased”.

“We will do all that we can to get to the root of the case and to ensure that all those that have hands in the alleged murder are brought to justice, ” he said.

Gambo called on the residents to assist the police with relevant information that would help them in unravelling the mystery of the case.
