Here’s what we know about the upcoming TV series ‘Shagayas and Clarks’

Back in June, we reported that Nse Ikpe-Etim and Skinny Girl in Transit star Ayoola Ayolola will be in the TV series Shagayas and Clark. Currently, Shagayas and Clarks is in post-production, one of the show’s writers Ozioma Nwughala informs me via e-mail, and other writers include Francis Okeke and Julie Ako. And…wait for it…the show is coming to Netflix!

For me, knowing about Shagayas and Clarks was completely accidental. I had wandered into Instagram, mindlessly looking for brief entertainment and then, I’m on the show’s dedicated Instagram account, watching a clip repeatedly. To be frank, I liked what I saw. Shagayas and Clarks is a spin-off of Funke Fayoyin’s The Visit, which was released in 2015 and has now been expanded and tweaked. The original story had a four-cast ensemble of Nse Ikpe Etim, Femi Jacobs, Blossom Chukwujekwu and Bayray McNwizu, and while The Visit was shot in Nigeria, Shagayas and Clarks finds its landscape in America.

The film had focused on the life of two couples with different lifestyles living in the same apartment block, and how they handle conflict when their lifestyles collide. The series Shagayas and Clarks shares the same narrative beat, with embellishments here and there and yessssss, Nse Ikpe Etim is the only cast member reprising her role and I already feel blessed. Come through, Nse!

Joining her are Emmanuel Ikubese, who will now play her husband, and Skinny Girl in Transit darling Ayoola Ayolola and Tamara Eteimo, whose marital lives on the show are stiffened by rules. Ayoola is definitely talented, and I can’t remember if I have ever anticipated the release of a Nigerian series before. I’d know if it’s been worth the wait whenever it comes to Netflix. No release date has been announced yet.
