Nigerian singer and entertainer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo also known as D’banj, is at the centre of discussion today on Nigeria Twitter.
Following an official press statement that was released by Seyitan Babatayo, who accused the singer of raping her. Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform to share their views on the issue with many taking different sides and approach to the story. Many are still hinting that the Nigeria Police has a huge work to do in bringing justice to light for both the accused and the accuser.
Summary:
According to Ms. Seyitan Babatayo,
– Dbanj raped her
– After her public confession, she was arrested without a warrant. Her mother was not arrested
– She was kept in a cell for 2 days
– She was released to Dbanj who took her somewhere secret and intimidated her https://t.co/ZlNmX1MtuX— Efam Harris™ (@iefamharris) June 24, 2020
The D’banj and Seyitan story heated up after her disappearance following a confession against the singer she made on the Internet. While many fans of the singer supported him and prompted that the singer is innocent till proven guilty, many still shared that rape will forever remain a serious issue.
Part of getting Justice for Seyitan will be making sure that men of the @PoliceNG_lagos @PoliceNG that illegally arrested & detained her be Investigated
Making sure that @iamdbanj & the parties involved in Keeping Seyitan captive and seizing her phone be charged with kidnapping pic.twitter.com/qmoasJk3SD

[Innocent until proven guilty] But a fraction of Nigerians don't believe so.
Seyitan has boldly come forward to accuse Dbanj of rape. You guys, should chill and allow the law to play it's part.

The problem right now is not whether Dbanj raped her or not. The problem is why use the police to intimidate her? I have no problem with arrest either. The police should write a letter inviting her, she goes to the police station with her lawyers to write statement and she leaves

This makes me feel like clapping and crying, at the same time. That Dbanj and the Police could kidnap, intimidate and traumatize someone like this fills me with anger. Still, I am proud of all the people who spoke up for Seyitan. Strong formidable women who refuse to back down. https://t.co/5JbEOohV19

In this update on the case that has dragged all month long, The Nigeria Police has also come into the play as people have stressed from Seyitan’s statement, the Police perpetrated the kidnap by allowing the singer to intimidate her and pressure her to recant earlier accusations against him.
Seyitan has a case with this comprehensive and detailed story but I’m not in a position to be in her defense neither are you! Y’all should just chill with this dragging because Dbanj is not guilty yet. May justice prevail and I pray God restores sanity to this evil world ?

Dbanj had already sued her N100M for defamation so what was the need to use Police to arrest her for 2 days, seize her phones, delete all her tweets, tell her to tweet what you want her to & take her to an unknown location. No way you can support this Power Abuse & Wickedness https://t.co/imnttfwa1t

Some users however, stressed that for the rape accusation, D’banj will remain innocent until proven guilty. They also noted that for power abuse and intimidation of the young lady, the singer is guilty.
Really rooting for Seyitan. Not only will a win bring her the much needed justice, it will weaken the power of intimidation over victims.

Step 1 of many. Arrest and detain the police officers that partook in the human rights abuse of Seyitan Babatayo. That can’t be hard to prove, start with the head of that police station and let him/her spill the rest of the names @PoliceNG pic.twitter.com/DgxXIOGkWt

While many are rooting for Seyitan, a lot of people have called on appropriate authorities to take on the case for the violation of Seyitan’s human rights.
I also hope Seyitan sues Glee Hotel for giving a stranger access to her room. The hotel, not just the employee.

The fact alone that D’Banj took over her account and tweeted that she wasn’t arrested and also promoted his music, it means he had something to hide. Seyitan deserves full justice and would never be silenced. https://t.co/CQQsSF8ufu

Many people who jumped on this trend have also stressed that the Nigeria Police Force is chiefly to be blamed for the violations of Seyitan’s rights as they also berated the force for allowing people with power and influence to get away with crimes while trampling upon victims.
According to the press statement, Dbanj in collaboration with the police, did what they could to silence Seyitan but still failed.
I'm proud of the Nigerian women who strongly stood together to protect her.
I just want to hear what Dbanj has to say and how this plays in court!

D’banj who had earlier defended himself via an Instagram post, is yet to make any statement in light of Seyitan’s latest statement.
