Gunmen kill 3 policemen, abduct 4 workers

Gunmen Thursday killed three policemen and two community leaders during an attack at Oko-Asagun village in the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria the gunmen also abducted four workers of two telecommunications companies in the area.

A witness, Jude Ajagun, said those abducted were workers of TYDACOM Limited and Erickson Limited.

He said, “We were working on a site when we started hearing continuous gunshots and we scampered to safety. I hid beside some blocks while watching the scene.

“I saw about six heavily armed men; three were masked. They saw the three policemen, who were attached to an estate developer and shot them dead.

“The gunmen, thereafter, abducted four workers of the telecoms companies and marched them  towards Ode-Omi.”

A worker in one of the telecoms company who spoke on the condition of anonymity said they had been keeping vigils since the incident happened.

He said as of Thursday, the gunmen had yet to establish contact with the company.

The spokesperson for the state police, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, who confirmed the incident, said the policemen killed were taken by surprise.

He said measures would be taken to ensure the release of those held captive.
