Galaxy Note 7: Samsung complies to CPC’s 7-day ultimatum

Samsung has complied with the seven-day ultimatum given to it by the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), The Vanguard reports.

The CPC had in a letter dated September 14th directed Samsung to furnish it with “information the full status of your compliance with the global directive of Samsung to recall the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 forthwith, including other measures you may have taken to safeguard the safety and interest of Nigerian consumers in this respect.”

According to a status report released by the CPC on Tuesday, Samsung said customers who had purchased the device would be issued a replacement.

“Customers who already have Galaxy Note 7 device, Samsung will voluntarily exchange their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.

“Customers who have this device should submit it to Samsung authorized Service Centre in Nigeria and it would be replaced in the coming weeks.

“We are aware that some persons may have obtained it in one way or another. The company is currently conducting a thorough inspection with its suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market.

“We wish to advise that we have received instructions from Samsung Head Office in Seoul, South Korea, that a voluntary exchange of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (device) would need to be conducted.

“Samsung will fully cooperate with the recommendations of Consumer Protection Council as customer safety is our greatest priority.”

 

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on September 20th banned the usage of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Nigerian airlines, same day Samsung West Africa postponed the launch of the phone in Nigeria.
