For Poets: A distant neighbour

by WriterSpeaksPoetry

My friend the Lizard
My neighbour the Lizard
My tenant the Lizard
Uninvited, unpaying
Is content to live in the holes in my fence

He’s content to peek at me from his home
He won’t let me near though

He’s happy to lay his eggs & care for his young right there
But won’t let me show I care too

He acknowledges my presence with a nod and quick run to safety
That is his greeting to me,
Every morning on my way to work, he does this

I am not sure its the same one I see every morning
But he makes me smile with his quick escape when he sees me
So that’s enough for him to keep his apartment – the daily morning amusement…

This lizard, that lizard, not sure which, is an entertaining co-habiter..
