The country has been thrown into a mournful state yet again as it has lost one of its great talents in the form of Babatunde Okungbowa a.k.a OJB Jezreel who passed away this morning.
The 49-year-old artiste lost his battle to kidney failure – which he had undergone a successful kidney transplant for in 2013.
This was after Mabel, his first wife had donated a kidney to help save her ailing-husband’s life.
Here is the interview Mable granted to Punch in January 2014, few months after the operation – where she talked about her decision to give her kidney to him.
“I did not even think twice about it, I had it and I gave it to him. He is my husband, the father of our children and I love him. This is somebody I have been with all my life. I did not tell anybody before I decided to, not even my parents because I had foreseen their reaction. There was no reason to inform them”.
“When I married him, I told God I wanted the both of us to grow old together and live to see many generations. I am sure God knew this situation before he brought us together because not only am I a match for him, we are the same blood group and we are both stubborn.”
We cannot even fathom the sort of pain she’ll be experiencing alongside his 2 other wives and his 8 children at this time.
May God grant them the fortitude to bear this indescribable loss.
