The Film Blog: Zack Orji returns!

Zachee Ama Orji (that’s a trick old Nigerian journos use when they want to show you they know more than you – use his full names) has been away for a while.

The last time we truly heard anything new, it was his ordination as a pastor in the last quarter of 2015.

But he appears to have finally returned to Nollywood, and to your screens, big or small – and he hinted it with his cameo (alongside Onyeka Onwenu) in Banky W’s video for ‘All I Want Is You’.

And now he’s truly back.

First, is Africa Magic’s Casino – a series about power play that, again, looks really interesting (even if after Hush and ELTV’s The Governor, we wonder if it isn’t now a tad bit overplayed) as far as we can see from the trailers. It launched in August.

Then there is Three Wise Men, where along with RMD and others he plays a 60-something year old strugglist to re-live a youth that’s already left.

The comedy – that looks totally effective from its trailer – is from Opa Williams, another great we haven’t hear from in a while. It also features the utterly Ebele Okaro who we miss so sorely.

Wise Men was ready as far back as February, but it’s coming to the cinemas this month.

It’s about time. We miss our Old Nollywood greats. And whatever you say about the quality of the movies they decided to feature in, there was no doubt about their brilliance.

And Orji – who was beyond fantastic in Women’s Cot – is far and beyond one of its betters.
