The Film Blog: Ndani’s ‘Analyse This’ takes on the business of movie making

Analyse this

Ndani’s ‘Analyse This’ has had a spectacular season. They changed hosts, bringing on Honey Ogundeyi who does a stellar job of steering conversations with their guests towards intelligent resolutions and the great banter between Tunji Andrews and the guests provide clarity on a myriad of complex economic subjects. This is the way talk shows that tackle ‘serious’ subjects should really be done.

After touching on everything else. The new Analyse This episode finally circles back to the film industry, Nollywood in particular, and how the moves within the industry. Like all the other businesses in Nigeria, Nollywood has largely thrived thanks to the innovation and perservance of private individuals and companies, and as such there is no hard and fast rule to how money is distributed, what film gets made and what film gets scrapped and the indices that determine the bankability of an actor/actress. The guys at Analyse That manage to do a great job of rifling through the mess that is Nollywood’s back end and bringing out some gems, like the place of the Alaba marketers and how they transitioned from being literal pirates into respectable bastions of industry.

The episode also featured a guest, director Jay Franklin Jituboh, who also provided a lot of insight from his perspective as a director working independently and with commissions from studios. We are sha side-eyeing the comment he tried to slip during the interview about his film “Dinner” being a classic. That’s a bit of a stretch if the review by our in-house reviewer Wilfred Okiche is anything to go by.

In all, a pretty interesting watch if you want some insight on Nollywood.
