The Film Blog: AFRIFF is finally here – with big news

It almost looked like it wasn’t gonna happen. That’s if you don’t know Chioma Ude.

Because she will fight tooth nail, she will drag man and beast and she will do whatever she sets her mind to go.

The annual Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) announced its arrival for 2016 over the weekend – it holds from 13 to 20 November in Lagos, Nigeria.

The big news? Nate Parker’s Oscar-calling Birth of a Nation will be opening the festival, leading the pack for over 100 films which will be showing at the Genesis Cinema and the gorgeous, gorgeous Filmhouse-IMAX.

The festival, in its 6th year this year, will focus on “new narratives for African cinema and Black films world over.”

The festival will close with Izu Ojukwu’s ’76.

YNaija.com, we hear, will soon be a media partner for the festival, so expect some kind of tug of war between the central guys at YNaija who have a fidelity to that partnership and those of us on TFB who will be saying exactly what we think o – regardless.

Everybody should answer their father’s name.
