Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay has said the proposed N8.6 billion 2018 budget will be partly funded with N500bn recovered loots.
Sagay spoke on Friday in Abuja during his committee’s ‘interaction with stakeholders’.
Why it matters:
- President Muhammadu Buhari recently presented the 2018 proposed budget to the joint sitting of the National Assembly.
- The budget had included a deficit of N2.01 trn.
What Sagay said:
He said Nigeria has never recovered as more stolen funds like the Buhari administration has done.
“In 2018, N500bn from what has been recovered is going to be used to fund the budget,” he said.
“Regardless of what some elites, who I think are the beneficiaries of corruption, are saying, the anti-corruption efforts have been extremely successful.”
