FG releases N420m to states to revitalize health centers

The Federal Government, on Monday, disclosed that it has released N420 million to each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as seed money to help revitalize the primary health care centers in the states.

According to the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, who stated this during his visit to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, FG released the grant to states on July 14, 2016.

He said that the revitalization of the primary health care centers will reduce pressure on the tertiary health facilities in states and that states that do well will be given more more.

The minister also disclosed that the federal government has put in place mechanisms that will monitor states and ensure that the money is used for what it is meant for.

Adewole said: “Each state should ensure that a local government has at least one comprehensive primary healthcare centre.

“This will decongest teaching hospitals and make specialist hospitals to function very well.”
