Extension of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe approved by Reps

Members of the House of Representatives,yesterday gave a nod to President Goodluck Jonathan to extend the Emergency Rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe after a 3 hour closed door session with service chiefs.

Also, the service chiefs made it clear that no election can hold in the three troubled states as Nigeria was at war.

Speaker Aminu Tambuwal who presided at Thursday’s  plenary before putting the issue to a voice vote said,”we agreed yesterday,Wednesday, to vote on the extension of emergency  rule and after an exhaustive meeting with the service chiefs on their operations so far we agreed to vote on it. Read more….

President Goodluck Jonathan to visit Chibok town on Friday

Some security personnel have arrived in Maiduguri, the state capital of Borno, late today, and more are expected to arrive later tonight, Thursday evening. The arrival of federal security officers in the state capital, has not gone unnoticed.

The federal personnel is usually linked to the presidential security detail, and it has caused quite a stir even outside Maiduguri.

Their arrival has sparked rumors among local residents, civic leaders, and elected officials of possible actions to be taken in the coming days. Read more….

#BringBackOurGirls:  US officials say Nigeria tragically, unacceptably slow 

US officials on Thursday slammed Nigeria’s “slow” response to the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls by Islamic militants and renewed criticism of its military over its human rights record.

Democratic senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said Nigeria had been “tragically and unacceptably slow” to deal with the crisis, despite offers of assistance from the United States and other countries. Read more….

Nyanya blast: Terror suspect Ogwuche’s father arrested

The Department of State Security (SSS) on Thursday said a retired Army Colonel, Agene Ogwuche, has been arrested.

He is the father of the fleeing Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, suspected to be one of the masterminds of the April 14 blasts in Nyanya, Abuja.

No fewer than 75 persons were killed in the blasts, with over 100 injured. Read more….

#BringBackOurGirls: Jonathan gets protesters’ ultimatum

Protesters of the April 14 abduction of over 200 female students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, have given President Goodluck Jonathan until Monday to address them or face a mega march to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They also vowed to mobilize other protesters from all states of the federation for the rally, designed to ensure the girls’ release from the Boko Haram stranglehold.

The protesters in a letter to President Jonathan, demanded that he should address them within 48 hours. Read more….
