“Executive and legislative rascality” – This is how APC described the sacking of 180 Assembly workers in Ekiti

by Damilola Jagun

Following the dismissal of the 180 employees of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and permanent secretaries, the All Progressives Congress in the state has described the move as “executive rascality”.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 8, in Ado-Ekiti, the state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said the dismissal of the employees by the leader of the 7 Peoples Democratic Party’s lawmakers, Dele Olugbemi, shows that Fayose was not a friend of the workers.

Olatubosun maintained that the affected workers were duly employed by the House of Assembly Service Commission, with statutory approval since April 2014, with their conditions of service clearly stated.

He wondered why the workers were sacked through an announcement immediately after the New Year interdenominational service without following the civil service rules, adding that Olugbemi did not have such power to sack employees of the commission, even “if he were to be the authentic Speaker of the House of Assembly.”

He said: “This is a legislative rascality which is a corollary of executive rascality and recklessness by the Fayose administration. How can someone with genuine love of his people behave in a manner suggestive that he is an enemy of the people he professes to love?”

Meanwhile, the PDP has reacted to the comments of the APC, by asking its leadership to cover their faces in shame for defending irregular employment made by their government.

The state Secretary of the PDP, Dr. Tope Aluko, in a statement also on Thursday, said the affected employees did not have appointment letters.

He said: “It is unfortunate that the APC in its shallow mentality could think that such mysterious employment and appointment could stand in a rational society, like ours, in Ekiti State.”
