Enyinna Nwigwe becomes an emergency dad in the trailer for upcoming comedy ‘Baby Steps’

I can’t recall seeing The Wedding Party actor Enyinna Nwigwe in a full-throated comedy. As a bonafide Nollywood hunk, he has appeared in self-serious movies like Jeta Amata’s Black November, Turning Point and Black Gold. But an actor is an actor if he’s got range. Even Hugh Jackman un-Wolverined himself to sing and dance in The Greatest Showman.

With a trailer released last week, Nwigwe stars in Willis Ikedum’s upcoming comedy Baby Steps. According to the plot details, the movie tells the story of a casanova who wakes up one morning and finds a baby at his doorstep. He must juggle work and lifestyle with being an emergency father. What he doesn’t know is that the culprit is on a mission to making him a better man, a good father, and a responsible husband.

In the trailer, Nwigwe as a casanova is shown as he opens his door to multiple women. And then the baby mysteriously arrives, for which he questions his gateman for explanations. Watching him handle the baby, and doing it poorly, is funny and indicative of a crisis in masculinity exploding in our culture, where men are raised to be disinterested in housekeeping, cleaning and domestic chores. The movie also stars Segun Arinze, Mudiaga Ogheneovo and Bimbo Akintola, who is shown briefly assisting Nwigwe in a scene.

Ikedum directed the Mummy Dearest movies and Baby Steps is the latest addition to his portfolio as a director. No release date has been announced yet but the movie is slated to hit cinemas this year. Check out the trailer below.
