Tiwa Savage leaves Mavin, signs new record deal with Universal Music Group

The biggest news this week in entertainment was Tiwa Savage leaving her record label Mavin, to sign a new record deal with Universal Music Group. Social media was in a buzz, with Mavin boss Don Jazzy wishing her well. The deal makes her the first Nigerian female artiste to be on the label.


‘Game of Thrones’ director casts Nigerian actor Shobowale Bamgbose in Warner Bros film

It’s now established that everyone watches Game of Thrones, including their grandmas. Have you seen social media on pre-dawn Mondays? It’s a mess, a whirling vortex of spoilers. That said, the show’s casting director Nina Gold, who is known for her work on the HBO series Rome, has cast Nigerian-born UK actor Shobowale Bamgbose in a Warner Bros film.

Bamgbose has featured in a number of stage plays. On the big screen, the James Bond movie Casino Royale and Dog City. Nothing has been said about this Warner Bros film yet, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Hulu release Handmaid’s Tale season 3 trailer

Hulu’s hit series comes back next month with Elisabeth Moss’ Offred quietly searching for allies to help her fight against the totalitarian society she’s been enslaved by. The show looks about as dark and hauntingly shot as ever. The season premieres June 5th.

Tonto Dikeh hints writing tell-all book about failed marriage to Olakunle Churchill

This week was all about Tonto Dikeh, countering claims made by her ex-husband in a new interview and making new claims. Dikeh said Churchill was into internet fraud, lasted 40 seconds in bed, amongst other things. And social media ate it up. On her Instagram, she has hinted that she would write a book about the collapse of her failed marriage. Secure the bag, sis.
