Akon is your host for this year’s AFRIMA 

Organisers of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have announced Senegalese-born awardwinning singer, Akon as host of the 2017 edition of the awards.

Akon “will handle the event proceedings of the live broadcast award show scheduled to air live on over 80 television stations and online platforms across the world with support from the co-host, Ms. Sophy Aiida, a Cameroonian-French entertainment broadcaster,”, according to a statement released by the organisers.

AFRIMA 2017 will hold on 12 November at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

Selena Gomez is Billboard’s 2017 Woman of the Year

Award-winning singer, Selena Gomez has been named this year’s Billboard Woman of the Year.

John Amato, president of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group said, “Not only is Selena soaring on the charts, but she continuously inspires young women everywhere to be authentic, give back and to not be afraid to use their voice“.

Selena’s career success has transcended from music to film and even fashion. She joins the list of influential women in music – Pink, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Madonna who have previously been honoured with the title.

She will receive the award on 30 November at the Women in Music dinner and awards gala in Los Angeles.

 

Niniola releases debut album

After treating fans to a number of unforgettable club bangers in the past year, afropop artist, Niniola has now released her debut album.

The 13-track album, This Is Me features collaborations with Patoranking, Terry Apala, Devin Di Dakta and Charmant.

This Is Me is currently #1 on iTunes Nigeria.

 

House of Cards’ production suspended indefinitely

Whew! Kevin Spacey’s sexual harassment scandal is dealing a heavy blow to television series, House of Cards.

Yesterday, Netflix announced it would pull the plug on the show after its sixth season set to air in 2018. Now the show has been put on hold till further notice.

Netflix and the show’s producer, Media Rights Capital stated, “MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew”.

Actor, Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making sexual advances towards him 30 years ago at a house party. Rapp was only 14 at the time. Spacey responded with an apology where he revealed that he has chosen to live as a gay man.
