“Empower Her: We want to empower financially vulnerable women

The Founder of YESASAC, Precious Adeho, has said that the Empower Her Project which the NGO is set to launch is aimed at empowering financially vulnerable women in the society.

Speaking at a media parley ahead of the July 13 launch date, Adeho says “We recognise that women are the pillars of the family, and by extension, the society. A financially liberated woman will be a source of inspiration to her children – it will motivate them to strive for great things.”

According to Olayemi Mesogboriwon, the Project coordinator for Youth Effectiveness Solution and Skill Acquisition Centre (YESASAC), “the Empower Her Project will provide scheduled entrepreneurship trainings, start-up funds, access to business opportunities and mentorship. Selected beneficiaries will enjoy 1-year free trainings on financial intelligence for small businesses, how to grow and expand businesses, among others.”

Youth Effectiveness Solution and Skill Acquisition Centre (YESASAC) is a non-governmental organisation with special focus in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) as well as entrepreneurship training. They provide educational support to children and youths through scholarship schemes and distribution of educational materials, entrepreneurship trainings, and provision of micro credit facilities as well as trainings on personal and organisational effectiveness.

Empower Her

“Mama Chinwe, abeg borrow me N2,000. I wan pay Bidemi school fees. The school no allow her do exam o.” said Mama Bidemi to her neighbour.

“Eeya. Kai, I no con get o. You see this N3,500 wey de my hand so, I wan go market buy things wey I go put for shop. How you go do am now?” asked a concerned Mama Chinwe.

This conversation is not strange, particularly if you are familiar certain interior locations around the country. For these women, they are not just the emotional pillars of their homes, they are the financial pillars as well. It is usually left to them to see to the care of their children – feeding, clothing, school fees, and other attendant costs associated with raising children.

These women are usually very enterprising. They have small shops around their home where they sell things. Unfortunately, after a while, they close up; they spent the little they have to fend for the family.

YESASAC wants to help them. With the EMPOWER HER Project, YESASAC will teach people like Mummy Bidemi sound financial management principle for micro businesses, they will provide start-up funds for her small business, follow up with her to make sure she is putting the teachings to use, and also assign her a personal business mentor whom she can easily relate with. Mummy Bidemi will enjoy this for one year, free of charge!
