Election reporting just got a makeover! YNaija launches YNaija2015.com – a political platform for young people focused on 2015 elections …Chioma Agwuegbo is announced editor

The editors of Y!/YNaija.com, reputed as The Internet Newspaper for Young Nigerians, have announced another first – the launch of YNaija2015.com, an elite political platform focused on the 2015 elections.

The exciting new platform was announced officially on Sunday, 7 April at the closing session of The Nigeria Symposium for Young & Emerging Leaders which held in Ekiti by the Executive Director of The Future Project, who is also editor-in-chief of Y!/YNaija.com. YNaija.com was official media partner at the event.

“We can assume that there are enough news media focused on politics, but there is still the need for a compass to cut through the glut of information and present what is important in a way that is concise and well-considered” said Cheta Nwanze (@chxta), who is the editor-at-large.

Nwanze has worked as Digital Editor for NEXT/234NEXT.com and was also Chief Information Officer for Daily Times.

“There are many people writing and talking, but here the critical, informed young Nigerian is able to make sense of what everyone else is talking about. Inspired by The Fix from the Washington Post, this platform will be driven by facts, figures and data. We are focused on saying only what needs to be said, and not a word more.”

YNaija2015.com kicked off content officially at 7am on Monday, 8 April 2013 – to commemorate the date of the presidential polls at Nigeria’s last presidential elections in 2011 and to kick off a two-year countdown to the 2015 elections.

The editor for YNaija2015.com has been announced as Chioma Agwuegbo (@chiomachuka), a journalist, blogger, new media strategist, and community organizer who has more than seven years experience working as a producer, writer and an editor for organisations including the BBC Media Action, Nigeria Dialogue, YNaija.com and Future Challenges.

Agwuegbo also holds a Masters Degree in Social Media from Birmingham City University.

“We call the excellent team of intrepid reporters and analysts at YNaija2015 the smartest guys in the room,” Agwuegbo said. “And as the days roll by you will see why. From Fact-Checkers to Truthometers, Daily Briefs to Election War-rooms, we are taking absolutely nothing for granted as we present fact-based, balanced and cutting edge analysis, news and reporting leading to 2015.”
