Civil servants in Ekiti state, on Tuesday, failed to show up for a meeting called by the state government towards resolving the ongoing industrial action in the state.
The meeting came on the heels of the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose’s, decision to implement the principle of “no-work, no-pay.”
The meeting was scheduled to hold on Tuesday, with chairmen and secretaries of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, the Joint Negotiating Council, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees and the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools in attendance.
According to Punch, leaders of the labour union didn’t show up for the meeting.
They, however, wrote a letter to the government through their secretaries requesting for a new date, time an venue.
The letter reads, “The leadership of organised labour has met this morning and resolved that in the interest of peace, security of life and property, the proposed meeting should be rescheduled to another day/date and venue.”
