Eid-el-Kabir festival holds in Borno communities for first time in 4 years

Eid-el-Kabir prayers were held in some local government areas in Borno on Monday, after four years of being displaced by the dreadful Boko Haram sect.

Before now, the prayers were held in Maiduguri and a few other local governments that were not affected by the insurgency.

The prayers were held in Konduga, Gwoza, Mafa and Ngala.

Governor Kashim Shettima who prayed at the newly opened Konduga, described the development as an indication that the sect has finally been decimated.

The governor was joined by two senators, Abubakar Kyari (Borno North) and Baba Kaka Garbai (Borno Central) for prayers along with 3,500 villagers who recently resettled.

Shettima while speaking to journalists thanked the Nigerian Army, members of the Civilian JTF for their efforts in dislodging the terrorists.

He said, “As you are all aware that in the last two years, this town, Konduga and over 20 communities in Borno State were not safe for our people. I want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari, the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, members of the Civilian JTF and other security agencies for dislodging the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents from Sambisa Forest and other hideouts.

With relative peace; the government in its determination, passion and commitment, has started rebuilding, rehabilitating and resettling all our communities hitherto destroyed by these miscreants.”
