It would appear that former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode’s troubles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission are not coming to an end any time soon as the agency has seized his international passport and is not letting him go home.
Fani-Kayode was asked by the EFCC on Friday, May 6 to present himself at the headquarters in Abuja for question, a request which was obliged on Monday, May 9 by the former minister.
The agency is investigating Fani-Kayode’s involvement in the illegal withdrawal of N2.5 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan which was used to finance the 2015 re-election campaign.
Fani-Kayode, who was in charge of the former president’s campaign, was believed to have received N840 million from the illegally withdrawn funds.
According to the ex-minister’s spokesperson, Jude Ndukwe, Fani-Kayode had submitted his passport to the agency as part of his bail conditions.
Ndukwe told Punch that “The EFCC gave him two bail conditions. The first condition was that he would hand over his passport while the second condition was for him to provide two sureties. The two sureties must be at least directors in the civil service and must have properties in AMAC (Abuja Municipal Area Council).
“Five days after meeting the conditions, the EFCC has refused to release him.”
