EFCC might start going after Army chiefs in coming weeks – This is why

Again, the panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari from the Office of the National Security Adviser to investigate the procurement of arms between 2007 and 2015 has submitted another report to the presidency.

The newly submitted report is the third of such reports submitted to the President by the committee so far, even as the first was submitted in November 2015 and another in January 2016 following which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was ordered by the President to investigate 18 serving and retired military officers, mainly from the Nigerian Air Force.

According to the Punch newspaper, the new report was submitted to President Buhari last week.

According to a source, “Yes, I can confirm to you that the President received the report during the week (last week) and he has since approved it.”

With the approval, the EFCC would go after the people indicted in the report.

Even though details of the report are not out yet, it is believed that most of the people indicted in the latest report of the panel which has AVM J.O.N. Ode (retd.) as its chairman, were Army chiefs.

Another source however told Punch newspaper that barring any last minute change of plan, the Presidency might make public a few details of the report during the week.

“The fraud uncovered in this fresh report is massive. All things being equal, the government will be looking at the possibility of making highlights of the report public this week, probably during the Sallah break,” he said.
