EFCC holding facility is a ‘guest house for big boys’? Yeah right!

Can wonders really ever end in Nigeria? Each day with its own drama. Just when a boring news day was about to end, the EFCC popped up on headlines serving ludicrous comments to reporters about their detention facility.

So in June, a suspect who had allegedly conned a victim out of N91million died in EFCC just 6 hours after his arrest. The man had complained of discomfort but eventually passed in the hospital. Apparently, this amounted to bad press for the EFCC so they decided to salvage their drowning image. A group of journalists were invited to take a tour of the facility and its offerings. There’s really nothing wrong with this, but “guest house for the big boys?” That’s so wrong – but these were the words of one of the reporters taking part in the tour.

Mr Ibrahim Magu went on to challenge the reporters on the tour to come spend some time at the holding facility so they could have personal experiences of the generosity of the EFCC. What an unfortunate wow! Mr Magu added that they could come in as a group to prevent possible loneliness and boredom (one would expect the facility to have its own cinema).

A detention facility is not home and would never feel as such. The EFCC should have engaged the services of a good PR company for this but they decided to go ahead with such a foul move. We are not at all convinced that the EFCC holding facility is home away from home. Better luck next time!
