What is Nigerian politics without some occasional drama? The war of words between the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship election, Nyesom Wike, and his counterpart in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, appears to be spicing up steadily; with constant scathing banter exchanged between the two.
During a media briefing in Abuja earlier in the week, Ganduje was asked if he had a soft spot for Godwin Obaseki, Edo State Governor and former colleague, to which he responded that
“There is no soft spot for anything like that. The issue is that first of all, we know PDP made Governor Nyesom Wike their chairman; I assure you, we will isolate Wike in an isolation centre and before he recovers, the election is over”
He further insinuated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had welcomed Obaseki, a defector from the All Progressive Party (APC) because Obaseki is “managing the treasury of Edo State and they want him to use that treasury in order to win the election”.
In paltry fashion, Wike responded to the story saying that “between me and a man who has been caught pocketing dollars, who deserves to be isolated?” This statement inferred to a previously leaked video which had revealed Ganduje accepting a sum of money; allegedly described as a bribe.

Wike went on to say that no one can intimidate him and his party in this coming election. Nigerians were thoroughly entertained by the banter between the notable personalities; describing Wike as a man who “holds no prisoners.”

I can't help but laugh at that Wike's video. I'm sure Ganduje won't be happy he made the statement against Wike back then. A form of regret. Lmao
I'm happy APC made Ganduje the Chairman whatever at least PDP will use the opportunity to circulate the video again. A plus.

Wike takes no prisoners as he drags Ganduje through the mud.
And deservedly so. pic.twitter.com/fNZlX7flq5

Some insinuated that this would deservedly teach Ganduje a lesson and that corrupt individuals should not have a say in political matters.
Why do the most corrupt in the society think they have a say? If not for the corrupt conglomeration called the APC, Ganduje or whatever he calls himself should be in jail by now. pic.twitter.com/qWES4dHR3u

Many also called out the “pettiness” of Nigerian politicians, stating that Wike had thoroughly insulted Ganduje in his statement.
Our politicians are just petty. Wike has rubbished Ganduje and the APC here. ? https://t.co/oQgxq24rMW
