#Ebola: Third American doctor contracts Ebola virus disease

A missionary doctor working with Serving In Mission has contracted the Ebola virus disease in Liberia.

According to the group, Serving in Mission (SIM USA), the infected doctor is a male obstetrician.

The doctor was treating pregnant women and those giving birth, in the capital city of Monrovia, and he reportedly had no contact with Ebola patients in the hospital’s isolation unit.

The group said in a statement that it is unclear how the doctor got infected.

“The doctor isolated himself as soon as he developed symptoms and has been transferred to the Ebola isolation unit. He is doing well and is in good spirits.”

He becomes the third American aid worker to be diagnosed with Ebola, after Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol.

The two Americans who previously contracted the disease were treated in Atlanta, Georgia, with an experimental drug and have been released.
