It was only a matter of time because Ebola healings began to pour forth from the man in the Synagogue. So Lagos and federal government health officials visited the General Overseer of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), TB Joshua, ON Sunday, 3 August, to sensitise his congregation about the Ebola virus.

The delegation was led by Jide Idris, the Lagos commissioner for health, who said they had come to make the members of the church aware of the deadly nature of the disease and to ensure that no victim of the virus came into the church from any of the affected countries.

Idris said, “We have our strategies that we intend to share with you. Again, we need to know the resources you have here because whether it is one or two cases, if they are allowed to get out, it is a major problem. We are here to work together on how to contain this disease.”

He added that the health officials decided to visit the church because of its position and standing as an international Christian centre where people converge from all over the world, including the countries of the West African sub-Region which had already been infected by the Ebola disease.

Professor Abdulsalami Nasidi, the Director, Centre for Disease Control (CDC), who was also part of the delegation, said the meeting is a positive engagement mission and that their mission was to get the cooperation of the church in containing the virus.

He said, “We are here to engage you positively, we know the powers of this House and your powers and we are duty- bound to protect you and your congregation. We have no doubt the power God has given you, we can’t do that, but we want to help and make it work stronger.”

Meanwhile, Prophet Joshua, assured them of his readiness to work with the government in ensuring that the virus does not make its way into the country through his church.

He said, “I am ready to work with you. I love my country and I will be ready to work with you. Even if it is a rumour, there is need to secure our environment to ensure that it is safe.”

Halleluyah, somebody.
