“At long last, Mr President, here is your Emmy” were Alec Baldwin‘s first words as he received his trophy for Oustanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy series at the 69th Emmy Awards last night. Baldwin’s impression of President Trump on Saturday Night Live earned him the award.
Show host, Stephen Colbert had earlier thrown jabs at the US President in his opening monologue when he said, “We all know the Emmys mean a lot to Donald Trump because he was nominated multiple times for Celebrity Apprentice, but he never won. If he had won an Emmy I bet he wouldn’t have run for president.”
Colbert also invited former White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer on stage who revisited his infamous lines from the press conference right after Trump’s inauguration in January. “This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period. Both in person and around the world”, Spicer said on the Emmy stage.
No one was surprised when Baldwin played along the same lines in his own speech.
It won’t be too long before President Trump tweets his response to these multiple shots. We reckon he’ll attack Colbert more than the rest of the pack and save his comments for Spicer who he proudly spoke of upon the latter’s resignation, “I wish him continued success as he moves on to pursue new opportunities. Just look at his great television ratings”.
