Court says Metuh’s ‘fundamental rights’ not violated

Spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh has been ordered to pay N20,000 each to six of the defendants in a fundamental rights suit he filed against the federal government.

Metuh had approached Justice Abang Okon of the Federal High Court in Abuja, to challenge the grounds of his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. ‎

However, when the suit was to be heard on Thursday, February 24, Metuh and his legal counsel failed to show up in court much to the surprise of the judge.

He questioned why Metuh did not let the court know of his absence beforehand.

In lieu of the development, Tijani Kasali, the legal counsel to the attorney-general of the federation requested the court to throw out the suit as the plaintiff had clearly abandoned it.

“I urge your lordship to strike out the suit for want of diligent prosecution,”he said.

Justice Abang thereafter dismissed the case and ruled that Metuh is to pay N20,000 to six agents of the federal government.
