In what has been a long and tiresome week, Nigerians are turning up this Friday to some exciting new releases from their favourite artists.
New Music Friday had exciting entries on the Nigerian scene with anticipated collaborations and entertaining remixes. Some of the new songs blessing our airwaves this week are; the Jerusalema remix by Master KG and Burna Boy, the Michael Jackson remix by Bad Boy Timz and Mayorkun, End Of The Wicked by high profile Alté artist Santi, Killa by Teyana Taylor and Davido, Ginger Me by Rema amongst many other releases.
Nigerians were all the rave about Burna boy’s feature on the hit-song, Jerusalema; praising his versatility in his verse. They commented on his switch from singing in the Zulu language to English to Yoruba and Pidgin; displaying his mastery in multiple languages.
I’ve been restarting this Jerusalema song just to hear burna boy part again and again, African giant no be for mouth???
— Samuel Mbah (@Mbahdeyforyou) June 19, 2020
Call Burna arrogant, hate him if you want, but don’t deny the fact that he makes good music, Man went from Zulu to English and then Yoruba perfectly. An African giant I stan!!!

Abeg,
Where did Burna Boy learn to speak South African language???
He really did a lot of justice to that song, I didn't even know it was him who started the song until i listened to his voice carefully…
Nice one on the Jerusalema song by Burna Boy.

Many poked fun and commented that Burna boy’s personality does not do justice to his talent. They, however, proclaim that no matter what he might have done in the past, because of his beautiful performance in the new song, he has been forgiven completely.
Burna boy’s attitude put a lot of people off but we still vibe to his music heavy. Such toxic relationship!
— Omoniyi Israel (@__Omoissy) June 19, 2020
Burna Boy steadily compensates his unappealing attitude with good music. Sounds like a bribe to me and it's working.
We cancelled him yesterday. We uncancel him today. We move.

Others also praised his performance, saying that he made the song his own and shined brightly with his appearance.
Featuring Burna boy on your song, is at owners risk

Another release that got people talking was Teyana Taylor and Davido’s collaboration on the song titled Killa. Teyana Taylor released a new 90s inspired, self-titled album on Friday. It features A-class musicians including RickRoss, Erykah Badu, Quavo, Kehlani, Missy Elliott, Future, Big Sean, King Combs, Lauryn Hill and our very own Davido.
The Killa track features a very soft-spoken Davido. Many praised his feature as having an original African vibe to it. The general response was it was a good song and a talented Davdo delivered; showing us a different side to his artistry.
One Thing About Davido’s Music, you’ll always feel that African vibe and sound. Every Artiste talks about taking Afrobeats to the world but they forget to rep Afrobeats when featured on an international song. All those Caribbean and raggae shit won’t help afrobeats.

Nigerian musician, Mayorkun, Mr. Lay Lay of Lagos, also had many tweets dedicated to his new collaboration that greeted Nigerians this Friday. BadBoyTimz, a newcomer on the Nigerian music scene, features Mayorkun on the remix to the up-tempo song; Michael Jackson. The song was praised by many, with people claiming to listen to the track on repeat. Some even made the bold declaration that Mayorkun is the winner of this weeks Friday releases.
The number of times I've listened to that Mayorkun's remix of MJ has to be unhealthy
Not to even talk of that mad Burna boy's switch on Jerusalema remix. Burna is good,no cap????
This Friday is blessed
— IKENNA? (@Iam_ikjoseph) June 19, 2020

The high energy Afrobeats track is set to give upcoming artiste, BadBoyTimz more exposure, especially with Mayorkun’s feature.
Wonderkid, Rema, was not left out of the discussion as Nigerians expressed mixed reactions about his Ginger Me release. Several people aired opinions that the track is just an average performance.

However, there were those on the opposing fence, clearly declaring that Rema’s new song is a blessing to their ears. They laid the new release as an example as to why Rema is an extremely talented musician destined for great things.
Guess what?
