Buratai, Shiite leaders to appear before the Nigerian Senate

The Chief of Army staff, Major General Tukur Buratai has been summoned by the Nigerian Senate and the Federal House of Representatives, over the death of several Shiite members during last week’s clash in Zaria.

Top leaders of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria would also appear before the House as well as other stakeholders.

Nigerian Bulletin reports thus: “The Chief of Army Staff will have to come and testify before the committee as an important stakeholder. The committee has the mandate of the House to invite him. The DG, as well as the DSS too, is relevant to this investigation.

“The committee would hear from Buratai, Zakzaky and his key followers on the issue. A date has not been fixed for this but the committee is working to round up their assignment in two weeks.

“It will involve heads of other security agencies since the committee will be looking at the security implications or otherwise of the clash. The leaders of the Islamic Movement will also have to come and state their side of the matter before the committee can reach any reasonable conclusions,” a source was quoted to have said.
