Buhari’s South East visit, the whistleblower drama and, other stories that got people talking this week

These are the top ten stories that drove conversation this week.

Nigerian lawyer, Femi Falana has shown concern for the calibre of “older Nigerians” who would be the main candidates for the presidency in 2019 – Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar.


Seven days does not pass by without a social media celebrity fight that causes people to question the personality of such people that should act as role models.

This week, Eedris Abdulkarim, who has been on the trail of a number of his colleagues, attacked 2Face again.

In that same circle, Ruggedman went after Blackface who, also has been on the neck of 2Face. Although, Ruggedman was replying a comment by Blackface, saying, “I guess it was the alcohol they gave him there that loosened his tongue and he began to talk anyhow.”


The controversy of the whistleblower who led the EFCC to the millions in Ikoyi, this week, threatened to sue the Federal Government over the non-payment of his entitlements.

Reacting also, PACAC chairman, Prof Itse Sagay said the FG is only trying to help the whistleblower as such money handed to him without proper orientation can cause mental issues.

However, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun has promised that the whistleblower will be paid this month.


Citing instances of the inability to handle internal security issues, WISPI has rated the Nigerian Police as the worst in the world.

The report was released by the International Police Science Association and the Institute for Economics and Peace based on the assessment of 127 countries.


Former President Goodluck Jonathan said people have been approaching him to contest in 2019.

The Federal Government claims that 176,160 graduates have so far been deployed under the N-Power programme.

She, however, says she is happy that she was sacked because she could not have been able to go through the trauma of the monies that were being looted.

In reply, Jonathan asked Waziri to provide evidence to back up her claims.

President Muhammadu Buhari finally visited the South East.

Although the visit came with some threats of disruption, the visit most likely went as planned.

The Presidency used the opportunity to talk about the “goodwill of the President” towards the South East.

Speaking, President Buhari asked the Igbo people “not to buy into the senseless agenda of secession” as Igbo are Nigeria and Nigeria is Igbo.

In an unexpected manner, and what the military and the main party – ZANU-PF – in Zimbabwe called a bloodless transition, President Robert Mugabe has been displaced, along with his wife, Grace, who seemed to be gaining much power in the country.

The Head of the African Union, Alpha Conde, in reaction, said the body will “never” accept a “military coup” in the Zimbabwe.

Mugabe met with military chiefs in the country but refused to resign.

Then, while ZANU-PF insisted that there is no going back on Mugabe, the President made his first appearance in public.
