Buhari’s antecedents responsible for UN prediction of credible elections in 2019 – Presidency

The Presidency on Monday said the 2019 general elections will be free and fair.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement.

Background

The Presidential spokesperson was responding to a prediction by the United Nations that the 2019 elections in Nigeria will be credible and violent-free.

What Shehu said

Shehu said the prediction indicates the world’s confidence in Buhari’s administration.

He said, “The Buhari government doesn’t believe in cheap propaganda.

“It is not about responding to the attacks, false allegations, and insinuations of the PDP or of the still very active media machinery of the previous government.

“We believe in taking active steps to ensure that the future of Nigeria is better than it is today and we are glad to see that the United Nations has acknowledged this.

“Under the government of President Buhari, a number of credible elections have been conducted in states and local governments across Nigeria and, so far, there has been no cause for fear or worry.”

Perspective

In its usually manner, the incumbent administration has claimed the prediction as a ‘achievement’ for President Muhammadu Buhari and his government, not minding the fact that free and fair elections is not solely an achieved by the government.

The populace, media and mainly, the electoral commission have major roles to play in a free and fair election.

Shehu also attacked the opposition, in a statement that was simply meant to reiterate what the United Nations has predicted.
