British plane sent to help search for schoolgirls breaks down 

Britain’s Ministry of Defence on Monday said that a spy plane sent to help in the search for the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamists had been grounded en route due to a fault.

“A technical fault which has delayed the Sentinel aircraft on its way to Ghana is being investigated and will be solved as soon as possible,” said an MoD statement.

“In the meantime the UK military team continues its work on the ground while other surveillance aircraft continue the search for the missing schoolgirls.” Read more….

Jonathan orders probe of Kano blast

President Goodluck Jonathan has  ordered thorough investigation into the bomb blast in Sabon Gari, Kano State on Sunday night.

While the Sunday blast resulted in loss of lives, another bomb blast was foiled on Monday  morning at Tafawa Balewa street in the state.

According to three separate postings on the Twitter Account of the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President also directed the security chiefs to act quickly on the matter. Read more….

Boko Haram: Jonathan, Nigeria security chiefs hold crucial meeting

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday held a private meeting with military chiefs and heads of security agencies to review the security situation in Nigeria.

The meeting is also said to have focused on the ongoing rescue efforts to free the over 250 Chibok school girls who were kidnapped from the dormitory at the Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, on April 14.

Monday’s meeting comes two days after Mr. Jonathan returned from a summit on insecurity in Nigeria held on Saturday at the Elysee Palace, Paris, France. Read more….

Police in Benue beef up security around boarding schools to forestall attacks

Following the threat letters received by Government College, Makurdi, from the dreaded Boko Haram sect, the Benue Police Command said it had beefed up security around all boarding schools in the state.

The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adams Audu stated this when he met with the members of staff of the school on Monday in Makurdi. Read more…..

Court rules on Sanusi’s suspension Tuesday

A Federal High Court in Abuja is expected to give its verdict on Tuesday in the suit filed by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lamido Sanusi.

Sanusi ischallenging his suspension by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Justice Kabriel Kolawole chose Tuesday for judgment after entertaining arguments from parties in the case on April 8. The court took arguments on both the defendants’ preliminary objection and the substantive case. Read more…..
