The British Council recently held an art exhibition showcasing the creative hustle behind an art exhibition.

The event took place on Tuesday 10 November 2015, at the National Theatre Cinema Hall 1 with over 150 guests from various walks of life present.

A curator at the Tate Britain and Curator, International Art at Tate Modern in London, Zoe Whitley gave an insight on the Business of Creativity: Exhibition making.

With her presentation, she took participants through an exhibition that took place in Harlem, while emphasizing that artwork can take different forms, she highlighted various works of art ranging from an artwork designed by working primarily with art, a miniature model of the exhibition venue and an iconic recreation of the famous “A Great Day in Harlem”

Also,  Director at Omenka Galleria, Oliver Enuwonwu took the stage as he talked through the artists represented by Omenka Galleria.

The Omenka Galleries has participated in major art fairs around the world in places such as Johannesburg, Capetown, Barcelona and Dubai.

Enwonwu noted that a dearth of documentation in the Arts Industry is an impediment to the progress of Arts in Nigeria. He also spoke about documentation in the art Industry  as well as pursuing a career in the Arts.

He also elaborated on how the issue of documentation can be solved by documentation in magazines and on blog sites.

The Omeka Magazine has blazed the trail in documenting the activities of the movers and shakers of the art industry in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

Furthermore, he said the event presents opportunities for young art businesses to market and portray their work without having to deal with the budgets associated with working physically.

He concluded his presentation by summarizing that aspiring artists can look at opportunities inherent via the internet by putting up exhibitions through catalogues, contents and online distribution.
