Brexit: New rules may stop Britons from travelling to EU countries without a visa

With the assiduous Brexit process to be finalised by March 2019, travel plans will undoubtedly have to change, The Express reports.

The European Commission has championed a new visa scheme for all visitors to the European Union, called an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System).

Although a report says Brexit was not the catalyst for the visa, UK citizens will certainly be subjected to its binding rules once Britain leaves the EU.

The visa which is still under deliberation will come with strict restrictions on who can and cannot enter the vast European territory if approved.

While it is not yet finalised, ETIAS will require strict adherence to personal information, security and health checks.

An EU official said, “Neither the final proposal nor the possible questions have been formally agreed”.

“We cannot yet confirm when these negotiations will end and under which conditions the ETIAS will come to force.”
