Brand Manager, Adedotun Ajibade shares key points on adapting to post-COVID-19 changes

‘Never lose focus, no matter the challenges’ – Adedotun Ajibade.

The world is facing adverse challenges, and if we draw instances from the numerous tales of the Tortoise, we would remember how slow – and wise – the cunning animal is. Everything is changing – may be slow – but it is, caused by these challenges and made real by people who ‘never lose focus’.

This is Share of Voice, where we connect and have conversations with the brightest minds across industries. The ones who ‘take the bull by the horn’, and the hearty members of the ‘boys scout.’ We have listened and learned from people like Bayo Adedeji (Wakanow), Ladi Ogunseye (Palmpay), Oke Umurhohwo (itel), Olajumoke Bolu-Kujero (Jumia Nigeria)…and now…Adedotun Ajibade.

Adedotun is an Account manager with diverse experience in managing and developing business to business and business to consumer strategies across various business sectors. He has developed and managed various marketing communication campaigns from conception to execution while working with various teams and independently.

The Muse

The most important thing in life is having a vision. There is a popular quote that says “A man without a vision for his future, always returns to his past.” Vision makes you have a focus, and with a focus, though it might take time, you will surely get to your destination.

I have a destination, though the journey has not been smooth. There have been delays, diversions and even some distractions, but the bigger picture has been a driving force. Like I earlier said, never lose focus, no matter the challenges.

Personal values and principles

I called it IAP – Integrity, Accountability and Perseverance. These are the 3 things that have been driving me towards my goal. I don’t just wake up to uphold them, but I walk and work through the day with the understanding that I must adhere strictly to them.

The changes – the approach

There is a popular saying, “Challenges are opportunities.” This period has really opened my eyes and so many other people to a new level of opportunities. There are different ways of approaching issues now that we thought might not work before. Imagine working from home. An idea most organisations didn’t see possible or effective. I am sure most companies are already thinking of how they will make it permanent even after COVID 19.

Webinars, virtual learning for schools, etc. are some of the new embraced way of life that will surely alter so many things in this country even after the pandemic.

On a general basis, I see change as a constant factor and I am always planning ahead. Most times things don’t really surprise me because I always think of every possible outcome before any action.

Brand Management on a globally competitive scale

The industry in Nigeria is already competing on a global scale. Some of us are currently working on some of these global brands, though not as involved as we would have loved. The world has been a global village, and we all understand that we can access what is happening across the globe in a space of a few seconds. With the little resources we have, we are winning awards on the international stages. I am confident we have the human resources and capabilities to compete favourably at any stage if we have the right tools.

Any wild ideas?

So many ideas that I would have loved to talk about here but there is always a confidential clause. I am sure there will soon be another opportunity to talk about the ones we were able to execute.

Secrets?

I don’t think I have any secret, but I sometimes love to be alone, it gives me room to think better.

For the unfledged…

The first thing is to understand their purpose in life and pursue it without distraction because a man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder.
