US promises continuous support for fight against Boko Haram

The United States has condemned the recent string of suicide bomb attacks by the Boko Haram sect in Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday  that the horrific and indiscriminate attacks clearly  highlight the fact that the group’s brutality and barbarism know no bounds.

It reiterated its government’s commitment to continue working closely with the region to root out the threat posed by the group.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the soldiers, government officials, and civilians killed; we hope those who were injured will recover quickly,” the U.S. said.

According to Premium Times, It further praised the security forces of Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria for their timely responses to the callous and cowardly attacks on innocent civilians.

The United States said it would continue to support the governments and people of the Lake Chad Basin region in their ongoing struggle to defeat Boko Haram.

The U.S. support to these efforts include a number of security and counter-terrorism assistance programmes in intelligence, advisors, training, and equipment.

“We look forward to expanding this support both bilaterally, with the individual countries, and to the Multinational Joint Task Force, which the Lake Chad Basin countries and Benin are in the process of standing up to coordinate their counter Boko Haram campaigns,” it added.
