1. Senate rejects Magu for the second time

The Senate on Wednesday rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the second time.

According to the upper chamber, his rejection was based on a letter from the DSS stating that he was unfit to lead the agency.

The DSS had written had written another letter to the Senate insisted that Magu failed the ‘integrity test’.

The Senate had earlier rejected him last year after the DSS indicted him in a report.

However, Magu has said he would not stop fighting corruption.

The Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption has also asked Buhari to renominate Magu.

2. Senate vs Customs boss

The Senate has mandated the Comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service Hameed Ali to appear before it on Wednesday, March 22 in uniform.

The Senate took the decision in a voice vote when it received Ali during plenary on Thursday.

Ali had appeared before the Senate wearing a white native attire.

He had earlier failed to honour the Senate’s invitation twice, which had prompted the upper chamber to threaten him with arrest if he fails to appear before it.

Ali in a second letter to the Senate had said he was taking legal advice on the issue of wearing a uniform.

The Customs boss later said no law mandates him to wear a uniform.

3. Apostle Suleman’s sex scandal

The sex scandal involving General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries and a Canadian-based Nigerian, Stephanie Otobo has continued.

Otobo has dragged him to the police for attempted murder.

In a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police dated March 13, Otobo said Apostle Suleman tricked her to abort a pregnancy which almost led to her death.

She also claimed that the Apostle’s wife is aware of his alleged extramarital affairs.

Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has however pronounced his support for Suleiman stating that the allegation was sponsored.

4. Shekau resurfaces

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has appeared in a new video released on Friday.

In the video, Shekau refuted recent attacks in Libya while threatening world leaders.

The Boko Haram leader is seen displaying identity cards, arms, ammunition and other equipment purportedly seized from the Cameroonian Army.

5. Boko Haram attacks

Five persons were killed early Wednesday when four female suicide bombers detonated explosive devices at Usmanti along Muna Garage axis, Maiduguri, Borno.

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) confirmed that all the suicide bombers and a villager died while 16 people were injured.

Boko Haram terrorists also attacked Magumeri, a town in Magumeri local government area of Borno state.

The insurgents killed scores of people and razed down buildings.

6. Ahmad ends Hayatou’s 29-year reign at CAF

Madagascar FA boss, Ahmad Ahmad has ended Issa Hayatou’s 29-year presidency at CAF.

Ahmad beat Hayatou by 34 to 20 votes in the election which held on Thursday at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

7. Fanta and Sprite not suitable for using drugs

A court order has warned Nigerians against using Fanta and Sprite with Vitamin C because of their high concentration of benzoic and ascorbic acids.

The Nigerian Bottling Company has however said reports that its brands, Fanta and Sprite are harmful to Nigerians are unfounded.

In a bid to clear rumours flying around, the Ministry of health has also stated that both brands are safe to consume but not suitable for using drugs.

8. EFCC intercepts N49m cash

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday said it intercepted N49 million cash hidden in five sacks at the Kaduna international airport.

The anti-graft agency in a statement said the bags contained new 20 bundles of N200 notes and 180 bundles of N50 notes all totaling N49 million.

The agency later denied media reports that the N49m recovered at the Kaduna International Airport was a stunt.

The agency has also secured a temporary forfeiture order after no individual has come out to claim the cash.

9. Court remands ex-NNPC GMD in jail

A Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded ‎a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Andrew Yakubu, in Kuje Prison pending when ruling on his bail application would be delivered on March 21.

Yakubu was arraigned before Justice Ahmed Mohammed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a six-count charge bordering on fraud.

The judge gave the order of remand shortly after the ex-NNPC boss was arraigned and his bail application argued on Thursday.

10. Fuel subsidy fraudster bags 10 year jail term

A fuel subsidy fraud suspect, Rowaye Jubril was on Thursday convicted by an Ikeja Division of the Lagos High Court.

Jubril and his company, Brila Energy Ltd. were found guilty of 13 count charges of fuel subsidy fraud.

Justice Lateefat Okunnu sentenced Jibril to 10 years in prison, and made an order of restitution for his company to refund N963.7 million to the Nigerian government.
