‘Don’t be a heartless politician’ – Attahiru Jega

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has urged the stakeholders involved in the upcoming rerun elections in Rivers state, to put people’s lives above their political ambitions.

The Rivers State re-run election is holding this weekend, to elect public officials into three senatorial districts, 11 House of Representatives and 22 State Assembly seats.

As the tension heats up in the state and the war of words are thrown across board- between members of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party- Jega has pleaded for caution and tolerance.

The former INEC boss urged politicians to not be ‘heartless’ while calling on them to publicly ‘condemn violence’ ahead of the polls.

“We all need to understand that Nigeria & Nigerian lives is what matters most, not PDP or APC. Let’s condemn violence in Rivers state Don’t be a heartless Politician and put political interest above the lives of the citizens, Let’s condemn violence.”
